Roger and Robert were delighted to secure this athletic colt by Nicconi out of the Group winning O’Reilly mare Kirra Sand during the Karaka Book 1 Sale.
This colt’s speed sire Nicconi has one of the most consistent strike rates, with 74% of runners to represent him being winners. He has also been an impressive sire of high-class gallopers with 18 individual stakes winners claiming 35 stakes races between them.
Nicconi’s ability to leave progeny much like himself is evident through the deeds of his three-time Group One-winning son Nature Strip. A winner of 12 races (7 at stakes level), Nature Strip’s acclaimed racing career has been headlined by victories in the G1 ATC Galaxy Handicap, G1 VRC Sprint Classic and G1 MVRC AJ Moir Stakes.
To add further weight to his pedigree, this colt is out of 7-time winner Kirra Sand who was successful in taking out the G3 Cuddle Stakes. By New Zealand’s Champion Broodmare Sire O’Reilly, she has left three winners who have won over distances between 1200 and 1400 metres.
He is a lovely athletic colt with a massive walk, flawless conformation and a great action – all excellent attributes to suggest he will become a success on the racetrack.
He has been purchased to target the lucrative $1 million Karaka 2YO and 3YO races and is also eligible for the BOB’s and Super VOBIS Bonus Schemes in Australia. The Kingsclere team will give him his opportunity as a two-year-old with all early signs suggesting he will be a promising early maturing type.
Kingsclere trainers Roger and Robert look forward to a bright future with this precocious colt by leading young sire Proisir from the four-time winning mare Queen of Navarre.
With his oldest crop only three-year-old’s, Proisir has made an excellent start to an exciting stud career. From his oldest crop, he has sired G3 Bonecrusher Stakes winner Riodini (who has since been Group One placed) and other notable stakes horses include four-time winner Pimlico and stakes-placed two-year-old Hot Tap.
This colt is the second foal out of the four-time winning mare Queen of Navarre. Unbeaten in her first two starts, she was a two-time winner at two and stakes performed in the same season. An out and out sprinter, she won up to 1200 metres.
On type, he is a strong, mature style of colt with powerful hindquarters and plenty of presence about him. A natural two-year-old that looks like he will get up and run, he was purchased with two-year-old targets in mind, namely the $1 million riches on offer on Karaka Millions evening.
Apart from his athletic constitution, what stood out about this colt was his temperament and willingness to get on with his job. In the demanding yearling sale environment, he didn’t put a foot wrong and was spoken fondly of by his preparers who loved working with him.
